What to wear on your fall mini shoot.
The most common question amongst couples and families before their session is "what do we wear?" Well, I'm sure you're all familiar with the family portraits on the beach where everyone is sporting their matching khakis and white t-shirts whilst starring awkwardly at the camera. Don't worry, I'm not going to ask you to do that. In fact, I may not even have you looking at the camera most of the time. My goal is to take natural and relaxed portraits, and the only way to make this happen is by following the golden rule: Dress comfortably. When you are wearing clothes that you are comfortable in, it's much easier to feel at ease in front of the camera. Can I get an AMEN?! Now that we have covered the comfort part, it's time to address outfitting. Below are some examples of outfits I would choose for my theorical "family.". Not only do these outfits reflect MY personal style, but they are also comfortable and complimentary to each other. I went with rich shades that I knew would POP in photographs, and I stayed away from colors that would blend in with an outdoor background.
Accessories are another way to add personality and fun into your photos. For him, I choose some jazzy socks that might peek out in certain poses - and for a little boy, I picked a cute bow tie which brings a little extra playfulness that I love to exhibit in my photographs.
These outfits may not represent your style, but as long as you stay along these guidelines, you're sure to love the results.
