How to Choose the Perfect Photography Session for Your Family
If you’re anything like me, deciding on the perfect photography session can feel a bit overwhelming. Maybe it’s not quite on the level of picking a school for your kids, but still, the struggle is real! Whether you’re after a quick update for your holiday cards or want to dive deep into capturing those fleeting moments, I’ve got a few options that will suit your needs.
Let’s break it down so you can figure out what’s right for you (without losing your mind in the process).
Mini Session (15 Minutes In-Studio)
Best For: The busy bees, small families, or anyone who likes to get in and out with minimal fuss.
What’s the Deal? My mini sessions are 15 minutes of in-studio magic. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s perfect for up to 6 people. I choose the date and location, so all you have to do is show up and bring your smiles!
Why This Might Be for You: If the idea of wrangling the family for a long session makes you break out in hives, or if you’ve got little ones with the attention span of a goldfish, this is your best bet. Plus, you’ll walk away with some gorgeous images without the time commitment.
Full Family Session (90 Minutes)
Best For: Families who want a more personalized experience with room to play (literally and figuratively).
What’s the Deal? This session gives you 90 minutes of camera time at a location of your choosing, on a date that works for you. We’ve got time to explore different poses, outfits, and settings to capture everything from the posed to the candid.
Why This Might Be for You: If you’re celebrating something special, or just want the flexibility to take your time and get everything just right, this is the session for you. Think of it as a relaxed adventure where we can capture all the little moments that make your family unique.
Half Session (45 Minutes Outdoor Location)
Best For: Those who want a bit more than a mini session but aren’t quite ready to commit to a full session.
What’s the Deal? This one’s all about the outdoors. We’ll shoot at a location I choose, typically at a time when the light is just right. It’s 45 minutes of fun and spontaneity, without the marathon of a full session.
Why This Might Be for You: If you love the idea of outdoor photos but don’t need the full range of a longer session, this is a sweet spot. It’s also great if you’re a fan of the great outdoors and trust me to find that perfect location for your family’s story.
So, Which Session Should You Choose?
Consider Your Schedule: If your life is a whirlwind and you’re short on time, the mini session might be your saving grace. If you’ve got more flexibility and want to soak in the experience, a full session could be just what you’re looking for.
Think About Your Family’s Vibe: Are your kids little balls of energy who might do better with a quick session? Or are they more laid-back, giving you the space to enjoy a longer shoot? Matching the session to your family’s energy level can make a huge difference.
Budget Matters: Let’s be real, we all have budgets to consider. Each session type is priced differently, so think about what works best for you while still getting those cherished photos.
In the end, choosing the right session is all about knowing what you want to remember. Whether you’re capturing a fleeting moment or documenting a milestone, there’s a session that’s just right for you. And don’t worry, I’m here to help every step of the way, so you won’t have to make this decision alone!
