What to Wear for Your Photography Session: Let’s Keep It Simple!

Figuring out what to wear for a photoshoot can feel like one of those never-ending questions. (You know, the kind that sits somewhere between “What should we have for dinner?” and “Do I really need this many shoes?”). But fear not—I’m here to make this part of the process as easy and stress-free as possible!

Rule #1: There Are No Rules!

First things first—there really aren’t any hard-and-fast rules when it comes to what you should wear. Seriously! The most important thing is that you feel confident and comfortable in what you’re wearing. If you’re happy, it’ll shine through in your photos, and that’s what we’re after.

Consider the Backdrop

The backdrop for your session might be neutral, vibrant, or somewhere in between. A good rule of thumb is to lean towards neutral or earthy tones that work well with almost any setting. Soft beiges, creams, warm browns, muted greens, and gentle blues tend to complement a variety of backgrounds and create a cohesive, natural look in your photos. But hey, if you’ve got a favorite outfit that doesn’t exactly fit this palette, that’s cool too. :) I love seeing the creativity my clients come up with.

A Few Practical Pointers:

Be Ready to Move: We might get a little creative during your session, so you could be asked to sit on the floor or move around a bit. Make sure your outfit is comfortable and allows you to move freely. Think about fabrics that won’t restrict you and shoes that you can easily walk in.

Avoid Distracting Details: While I’m all for self-expression, it’s best to steer clear of clothing with logos or large text. These can draw attention away from what’s really important—you and your family! Keep it simple so the focus stays on the love and connection between you.

Dress for the Season: This one might seem obvious, but make sure to consider the weather and season when picking out your outfits. If it’s chilly, bring layers that look good together. If it’s warm, opt for lighter fabrics that will keep you cool.

Be Punctual and Prepared: I recommend arriving dressed and ready to go at your scheduled shoot time. This way, we can dive right in and make the most of our time together.

Final Thoughts:

At the end of the day, your photos are about capturing who you are in this moment. So, wear what makes you feel good, and don’t stress too much about the details. Whether you’re decked out in coordinated outfits or everyone’s rocking their own unique style, the most important thing is that you feel like yourselves.

Can’t wait to see what you come up!
